The aim of a protection order is to protect the applicant against the abuse of the respondent. The court can prevent the respondent from committing any further act of domestic violence and can also forbid the respondent from entering the shared household, or a specified part of it.

There are ample qualified barristers, attorneys and notaries in the Republic of Mauritius. The main reason why people often do not have access to legal representation is because of the cost involved. Legal fees are reasonable for a professionally qualified person, but they may be out of reach for the average Mauritian.
